Our towns- Monroeville, Alabama!

10 minutes from our home is the larger town of Monroeville, Alabama.  You can find almost anything you need here from a Wal Mart to banks, lumber stores, vet, fast food joints, YMCA and tons more!  The square is quaint, and you can find antique stores there as well as an ice cream shop, the courthouse, a library, a thrift store, boutiques, and a coffee shop, just to name a few. Yesterday I visited the Back Roads antique store and got to visit with a very nice Great Dane named Hero and his itty bitty furry friend Gizmo!  Alan and I love antiques and want to support local businesses, so we're frequenting antique shops and local home improvement stores when we can as we renovate our home.

Monroeville is a historic town, well known for a few popular authors!  According to Wikipedia, Harper Lee was born and raised in Monroeville. Her 1960 novel To Kill A Mockingbird modeled the fictional town of Maycomb based on her hometown.  Truman Capote, a childhood neighbor and friend of Harper Lee, grew up in Monroeville. Capote acknowledged being the inspiration for the book's character, Dill.  Every Spring a production of To Kill A Mockingbird is performed at the courthouse.  See more:

Several murals are painted on the buildings in the down town area.  Apparently there is a "mural walk."  I'll have to find out more about that.  Here are just a few of the murals I've seen so far:

Personally, I don't paint Plein Air, but it's nice to see people painting on the square!
