KITCHEN PART 1

The kitchen remodel is a big one!  When we moved in, half of the kitchen floor had been ripped out.  The sub floor is made from pine planks that are secured diagonally onto the joists. That was all there was, so we could see through the cracks into the crawlspace.  The other half has tongue and groove planks on top of the sub floor and had been covered with checked linoleum squares.  The first thing we did was to put new plywood down onto the sub floor and take up the layer of linoleum.  This evened up the floor.  The hard wood floor would be pretty to refinish but only half of it remains, so instead of trying to match the original wood with something new (too low on money and energy for that), we're going to lay down floating laminate floor tiles. They snap together and just sit on the floor (no glue). If anyone wants to restore the original wood floor and then add to it in the future, they can- the floating floor won't damage what is there.

We took out the old ceiling tiles (they were not asbestos) and the ceiling light, put sheet rock up, painted it, and added dimmable can lights.  I love how bright and open (and bigger!) the space looks!

NEXT:  Add fill in cabinets, counter tops, copper sink and faucet, and then the floating floor.  Then we can move the fridge in!  Stay tuned for PART 2!
